Welding School Induction Centre
At the José Maciel Welding Academy we pride our self in giving you the best welding training you can receive as an individual.
The academy formally known as the Hydra-Arc welding academy was started in 1999 by J.A. Potgieter and only had ten trainees at the time and it was a working progress.
In 2002 the academy moved from Kinross to Sasol site an grew from ten to thirty trainees, the aim and mission of the academy was to get more local talent involved in the welding industry and to get the Thai welders that Hydra-Arc was importing to meet the demands of the ongoing projects out, and get more local talent in.
The rapid expansion of Hydra-Arc permitted J.A. Potgieter to move the academy to the Hydra-Arc head office in the industrial area of Secunda.
In 2003 the José Maciel welding academy formally opened and grew from strength to strength. Currently the academy has ninety-seven active trainees and is still expanding. The academy has four coaches, 2 Assessors and one moderator, all accredited with the Chemical Industry Education Training Authority (CHIETA).
We are fully accredited by CHIETA:
- NQF Level 2 SAQA Qualification Number (13634) Learnership (120Credits)
- NQF Level 3 SAQA Qualification Number (13633) Learnership (120Credits)
- NQF Level 4 SAQA Qualification Number (13632) Learnership (120Credits)
- Provider of Apprentice training (Section 13)
- Decentralised Trade Test Centre (Section 28)
Private training is also available at the academy through a bursary.
We offer skills training as follows:
- Grinder
- Module 1 - 2 SMAW welder in all positions (Structural Welder)
- Module 3
a) GTAW carbon steel Pipe welder in all positions
b) GTAW/SMAW Carbon steel Pipe welder in all position (Single Code Welder)
- Module 4
a) GTAW Stainless steel pipe welder in all position
b) GTAW/SMAW Stainless steel pipe welder in all position (Double code welder)
Host employer for field training is Hydra Arc. All candidate will be qualified in Bend test and X-Ray. He/she will be receive a welder stamp number before field training is commence.
