About

Brief History

In 1987, José Maciel recognised the need for skilled specialist welders. In 1988, he founded Hydra-Arc (Pty) Ltd, as a supplier of specialist welders. It was not long before Hydra-Arc progressed to a fully fledged maintenance contractor and thereafter to a mechanical and piping construction contractor. However he never forgot his roots and in 2002 he established the José Maciel Welding Academy for skilled welders in Kinross and later moved it to Secunda. José realised that the biggest component of the business was labour. He developed a comprehensive skilled labour database in order to identify, grade and train the resources he knew would be necessary for his future growth plans.

In 2005 Hydra-Arc expanded again into MEIP Construction projects. As the business grew, it became necessary to separate the different divisions into separate companies, to allow each to focus and grow within the group.

The Hydra Arc Group consists of a number of separate companies, each specialising in specific areas of expertise.
